Carpathian Star Way: Science, Education, Popularisation

Ihor Tsependa, the Acting Rector of Vasyl Stefanyk Precarpathian National University, visited the Vihorlat Observatory on Kolonica saddle (Slovakia). He was introduced to the activities of the astronomical research and training centre by its founder and long-time director, and now the head of the Carpathian Star Way project, Ihor Kudzei.

The acting rector’s visit was to learn about the experience of building this centre and to agree on further joint cooperation between the Vihorlat Observatory and the International Scientific Centre “Observatory” of the Precarpathian and Warsaw Universities.

Scientific astronomical observations began here in 2006 when a 1-m telescope was installed. It is one of the largest telescopes in Slovakia. Currently, there are seven telescopes for science and a lot of different small telescopes for astrotourism on Kolonica saddle.
