At the Department of Journalism of the Faculty of Philology of Vasyl Stefanyk Precarpathian National University, a media school – a joint project of the university and the City Centre for Children’s and Youth Creativity of Ivano-Frankivsk City Council – has been successfully operating for over a year.
The classes began in September 2023, in accordance with the tripartite cooperation agreement. The media school is headed by Associate Professor of the Department of Journalism, Honored Journalist of Ukraine Ihor Boichuk.
It has become a real platform for the development of young journalists – students of the city’s lyceums and university students, where they can communicate, exchange knowledge, ideas and gain practical experience in various media genres.
The main goal of the media school is to identify, support and develop gifted youth inclined to journalism. Students deepen their knowledge, improve their skills, familiarize themselves with modern media technologies, and work on their own projects.
Experienced teachers of the Department of Journalism are involved in working with schoolchildren.
In February 2024, the media school opened its doors to all lyceums of Ivano-Frankivsk community. Representatives of 36 educational institutions – more than 200 students – have already taken part in classes and practical trainings within the walls of PNU.
Students of the media school have practical classes in TV and radio studios, film stories, conduct photo shoots, record interviews, visit editorial teams and meet with famous media professionals and scholars.
