About University

Vasyl Stefanyk Precarpathian National University was founded on March 1st, 1940 as Stanislaviv Teachers Institute.

The University has undergone the 4th level of accreditation and is in the list of 10 best higher education institutions of the West Ukraine. According to the international Scopus database ranking, it is the 13th in the list of more than 200 universities in Ukraine (by the number of citations).

Vasyl Stefanyk Precarpathian National University teaches specialists in 64 specialties, conducts various scientific researches and carries out innovative activities. More than 140 thousand of qualified specialists have graduated from the University since it was founded.

The University maintains close relations with many world scientific and educational institutions, namely, in the USA, China, and EU. It offers 11 free master programs with double diplomas in the leading Universities of Poland

Within the European program Еrasmus+ КА2 the University has received grant funds for 4 projects. In the project MoPED – “Modernization of Pedagogical Higher Education by Innovative Teaching Instruments” the University was the first to receive the grant in Ukraine. Within the European program Erasmus+ KA1 the University works on 9 programs of academic mobility of students and teachers.

In the University there is an educational-scientific Laboratory of Physics of Magnetic Recording held together with H.V. Kurdyumov Institute of Metal Physics of the NAS of Ukraine. The laboratory is of the National status in Ukraine.  

There are the following institutions in the University: the educational-scientific Laboratory of Biological Ecology, the National contact office of EU Horizon-2020 program in the sphere of nanotechnologies, contemporary materials and innovative contemporary production, Educational-Scientific Institute of History, Ethnology, and Archeology of the Carpathians, Scientific Informational-Analytical Centre of NATO, EU Informational Centre. 

Several international projects are carried out, such as: State investment project “The construction of international meeting centre for Ukrainian and Polish students (village Mykulychyn, Ivano-Frankivsk oblast)”; the project of creation of the International scientific centre “Observatory” (mount Pip Ivan, Chornohora, the Carpathians), fulfilled on EU grant fund.

University structure:11 faculties – Faculty of Foreign Languages, Faculty of Philosophy, Faculty of Philology, Faculty of Economics, Faculty of Pedagogy, Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science, Faculty of Tourism, Faculty of History, Politology and International Relations, Faculty of Physics and Technology, Faculty of Natural Sciences, Faculty of Physical Education and Sports; 4 institutes – Educational-Scientific Institute of Law, Educational-Scientific Institute of Art, Kolomyya Educational –Scientific Institute, Institute of Graduate Studies and Pre-university Education; 1 college – Ivano-Frankivsk college; Educational-scientific centre of distance learning; information and computer centre; Scientific park “Precarpathian University”, Z.Yu. Pavlyk Arboretum; Botanic garden; Scientific library; Sports & Health complex “Smerichka”; two museums; stadium “Nauka”; Sports complex “Olimp”.  

There are 79 Departments. The staff includes 123 Doctors of Sciences, Professors, 724 teachers with scientific degrees. Professor V.I. Lushchak is in the list of 50 best scholars of Ukraine, associate professors O.V. Lushchak and H.M.Kubrak are in the list of 50 best young scientists of Ukraine.  

The teachers and students of the University were among those who started the rebellious actions which grew into the Dignity Revolution. Roman Huryk, a student of Faculty of Philosophy became the hero of the Heavenly Hundred and “the Hero of Ukraine” (after his death).
