These are hubs of science, investment, innovation, and the preservation of spirituality. This was emphasized by the rector of Vasyl Stefanyk Precarpathian National University, Ihor Tsependa, during his speech at the 30th session of the Ivano-Frankivsk Regional Council.
During the consideration of the question “The Role of National Universities in the Socio-Economic Development of the Region” by the deputies, the rector drew their attention to the university’s budget and the taxes (125 million UAH for 2023) that Precarpathian National University pays to the state treasury, noting that the university’s budget alone constitutes 18% of the budget of the city of Ivano-Frankivsk, and together with the budgets of the other two national universities, this amounts to at least one-third of the city’s budget. Additionally, using the example of calculating the minimum monthly and annual expenses of a student studying at a university in Ivano-Frankivsk, Ihor Tsependa demonstrated to the deputies the city-forming role of higher education institutions, with Precarpathian National University alone having 13,184 full-time students.
