Final of the III Student Contest “NIGHT OF TRANSLATORS”

Recently, the final of the “NIGHT OF TRANSLATORS” contest, organized by the Department of Slavic Languages and the Center for Polish Culture and European Dialogue in Ivano-Frankivsk under the patronage of the General Consulate of the Republic of Poland in Lviv, took place.

For the third time in the city, students and graduates gathered to read and translate Polish literature together as part of a literary translation contest.

This year, the selected works were poems and fragments by Zbigniew Herbert, featuring Mr. Cogito, an outstanding poet, essayist, playwright, and writer of global stature. On the centenary of Herbert’s birth, participants “traveled” to Lviv, his native city, from which he was once driven away by war.

The encounter with the writer’s work was accompanied by the tenderness and courage characteristic of Herbert, his curiosity about the world, erudition, and loyalty to those who have passed away.

The guests were greeted by PNU Vice-Rector Serhiy Sharyn, Dean of the Faculty of Philology Roman Holod, and General Consul of the Republic of Poland in Lviv Eliza Dzwonkiewicz, who highlighted the value of this contest and its significance for the development of philologists, as well as for the cultural mosaic of the Prykarpattia region.
