From April 17 to 22, 2025, faculty members from the Department of English Philology – Yuriy Velykoroda, Nataliya Gontarenko, Vita Yurchyshyn, and Kateryna Kobuta – were on a study visit at the University of Galway (Ireland) within the activities of the project “Strengthening of Capacity for Conference Interpreters’ Training at PNU 2024-2025” funded by the European Parliament.
During the study visit, faculty members had the opportunity to attend classes, discuss curricula and requirements for conference interpreting examinations with the university teachers, as well as learn how the European Parliament and the European Commission support interpreter training at the University of Galway within pedagogical assistance programme.
One of the highlights of the visit was a thorough discussion of how feedback is provided to the students for consecutive and simultaneous interpreting, and what criteria for students’ assessment can be used.
The study visit is an important stage in the implementation of the project “Strengthening of Capacity for Conference Interpreters’ Training at PNU 2024-2025”, aimed at facilitating the training of interpreters capable of working in EU institutions. Such projects are pertinent for Ukraine on its path to the European Union, given the increasing demand for highly qualified conference interpreters.
Integration into the European educational environment and compliance with EU standards in conference interpreting will be an additional step in ensuring the quality of education in Ukraine and will enhance the expertise of Ukrainian professionals on the international market.
The study visit was organized with the financial support from the European Parliament.
