Throughout the week, first- to fourth-year students of the “English Language and Literature and a Second Foreign Language” program, along with faculty members of the Department of English Philology at the Faculty of Foreign Languages, had a unique opportunity to attend guest lectures delivered by renowned Shakespeare scholar Professor Emma Vyrubailova from the Department of English Literature at Trinity College (Dublin, Ireland), a graduate of Stanford University.
The lecture series covered a range topics, including interpretations and adaptations of William Shakespeare’s plays Hamlet and King Lear across different cultural contexts, the specifics of designing a university course “Global Shakespeare”, analysis of animal imagery in English literature of the Medieval, Renaissance, and Enlightenment periods, practical advice on academic writing, particularly on how to compose literary essays.
The sessions were conducted in an engaging, interactive format, where students not only listened to insightful lectures but also actively participated in discussions. Professor Vyrubailova’s visit was a valuable contribution to enhancing international collaboration and academic exchange.
