World-renowned scholar in astronomy, space geodynamics, and space research, member of the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, President of the Ukrainian Astronomical Association, Director of the Main Astronomical Observatory of the NAS of Ukraine; and Honorary Doctor of Vasyl Stefanyk Precarpathian National University, Academician Yaroslav Yatskiv paid a visit to the International Scientific Center “Observatory” jointly operated by the Precarpathian and Warsaw Universities.
During the visit, Professor Yatskiv reviewed the scientific plans and technical capabilities of the center. He inspected the site designated for the installation of a modern 50 cm Newtonian telescope and a new dome with an automatic control system, currently being manufactured by a Polish company. The telescope itself is being produced in Ternopil by renowned Ukrainian manufacturer Serhii Verbytskyi.
The visit also featured a discussion on the prospects and challenges facing the scientific center. The meeting was attended by Acting Rector of Vasyl Stefanyk Precarpathian National University Ihor Tsependa, Vice-Rector for Academic and Pedagogical Affairs Yaroslav Shynkaruk, Secretary of the Supervisory Board Yana Stadilna, Director of the Astronomical Research Station of the ISC Volodymyr Troianskyi, and Coordinator of the Ecological and Meteorological Programs of the ISC “Observatory,” Head of the Department of Biology and Ecology Myroslava Mylenka.
