It’s Official as of Today: Vasyl Stefanyk Carpathian National University!

Today, our university officially received a new name – Vasyl Stefanyk Carpathian National University. All legal procedures have been completed.

For us, this is not just a formality – it is a step into the future that reflects our development, international ambitions, and mission. We preserve our academic heritage, traditions, and strengths. At the same time, the new name is an impetus for further growth and new opportunities.

For us, this change is a strategy that supports:

– Expansion of international cooperation. The University actively works with partners from the EU and the US, and the name ‘Carpathian’ will help to better identify us on the international arena.

– Historical justice. The name ‘Prykarpattia’ appeared during the Soviet period and obscures the region’s connection with its historical centre – Halych and the Halych-Volhynian state. We seek to restore identity and return historical meanings to names.

– The University’s mission. Carpathian University is not only an educational institution but also a scientific, cultural, and economic centre of the region.

This step is in line with Ukraine’s European development vector, where clear communication and comprehensible names are of key importance. After all, the word ‘Prykarpattia’ has no clear translation into English or other EU languages.
