On 15th November, Vasyl Stefanyk Precarpathian National University, under the patronage of the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Ukraine, hosted the 15th All-Ukrainian Contest of Polish Orthography. This year, 39 Polish majors from 22 Ukrainian institutions of higher education participated in it. The contest was organized by Precarpathian National University, the Jacob of Paradyż Academy in Gorzów Wielkopolski (the Republic of Poland), the Centre of Polish Studies and the Slavic Languages Department of the Philology Faculty at Precarpathian National University.
Among those who spoke at the opening of the contest were Rector of Precarpathian University, Prof. Ihor Tsependa; Chair of the Judges – Rector of the Jacob of Paradyż Academy in Gorzów Wielkopolski (the Republic of Poland), Honorary Doctor of Precarpathian National University, Prof. Elżbieta Skorupska-Raczyńska; Counsellor of the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Ukraine Ewa Matuszek-Zagata; Consul of the Consulate General of the Republic of Poland in Lviv Rafał Kocot; Director of the Centre of Polish Studies at Precarpathian University, Assoc. Prof. Olena Pelehata; Councellor of the Rector of the Jacob of Paradyż Academy in Gorzów Wielkopolski Halina Uchto; Vice-Rector for Student Affairs of the Jacob of Paradyż Academy in Gorzów Wielkopolski Przemysław Słowiński; Dean of the Philology Faculty of Precarpathian University, Prof. Roman Holod; Chair of the Slavic Languages Department, Prof. Mykola Lesiuk; professors and students of the Slavic Languages Department.
As Rector of Precarpathian University Ihor Tsependa said at the opening, “This contest is one of the many time-honoured traditions of cooperation not only between Precarpathian University and our Polish partners — the Jacob of Paradyż Academy in Gorzów Wielkopolski — but other Ukrainian universities as well”.
He also remarked on students’ great interest in Polish studies and their willingness to participate in the contest. According to the Rector, the objectivity of the procedure is very important, since for the last 15 years, no appeal has been made by contestants dissatisfied with the results of the marking. The Rector expressed gratitude to his Polish colleagues for fruitful cooperation and wished future graduates success in the contest.
“I am writing a dictation in Polish myself. It has many words of various complexity. This dictation is a story without too many difficult words, but there are simple words making up compound ones. Therefore, contestants need to show their ability to combine words. This year, the topic of the dictation covers the recollections of the female student from Prykarpattia who studied in Poland”, said Prof. Elżbieta Skorupska-Raczyńska, Chair of the Judges.
Based on the results of the marking, Daryna Slipchuk, a student of Taras Shevchenko Kyiv National University, became the winner of the 15th All-Ukrainian Contest of Polish Orthography.
Among the runners-up were Yuliia Balazh, a student of Vasyl Stefanyk Precarpathian National University, and Alina Diakonova, a student of Ivan Franko Lviv National University. The third prize winners were Anastasia Khomenko, a student of Vasyl Stefanyk Precarpathian National University; Iryna Svista, a student of Vasyl Karazin Kharkiv National University; Valeriia Palii, a student of Bohdan Khmelnytskyi Cherkasy National University.
All the contestants received certificates and prizes. The winner and the students who came second and third were awarded gifts and free education certificates from the Jacob of Paradyż Academy in Gorzów Wielkopolski.
Furthermore, during the awards ceremony, Rector of Precarpathian University, Prof. Ihor Tsependa awarded certificates of appreciation for long-term cooperation to Councellor of the Rector of the Jacob of Paradyż Academy in Gorzów Wielkopolski Halina Uchto and Vice-Rector for Student Affairs of the Jacob of Paradyż Academy in Gorzów Wielkopolski Przemysław Słowiński. The Rector also presented a commemorative award to Rector of the Jacob of Paradyż Academy in Gorzów Wielkopolski (the Republic of Poland), Prof. Elżbieta Skorupska-Raczyńska.
