On April 23-25, 2021 the 1st Virtual International Conference on Sustainable Development SDL 2021 was held. The Event was organized by Vasyl Stefanyk Precarpathian National University and the NGO “Sustainable Development Landmarks” (Ivano-Frankivsk, Ukraine).
The Conference aimed at (1) raising global and national awareness on sustainable development challenges and the crucial role of strong global partnerships and cooperation as powerful enablers of the successful achievement of all the SDGs, (2) raising awareness of the existing European and global frameworks that are relevant for sustainable development and pursuing the SDGs, (3) bringing the problems and prospects of Ukraine on the agenda of the global, EU and national stakeholders in the sustainable development field, (4)bringing together diversity of experiences from across the globe towards cooperation for change and bringing in the element of quality improvement in all the spheres of our life.
The event enjoyed the kind support of 168 registered participants from 16 countries and 10 Keynote Speakers from Bulgaria, Japan, Great Britain, Poland, the United States, Canada, Germany, Estonia and Ukraine, namely: Dafina Gercheva, UNDP Resident Representative to Ukraine; Sergiy Korsunsky, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine to Japan; Paul Vare, Academic Expert to the UN Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) Steering Committee on Education for Sustainable Development; Andriy Pavlovych, Coordinator of SALTO Eastern Europe and Caucasus Resource Centre, Team Leader of the EU4Youth Coordination and Support, Chairperson of the ISAR Ednannia Board; Jeffrey D. Sachs, President of the UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN), Director of the Center for Sustainable Development at Columbia University, New York, USA; Eugene Czolij, President of NGO “Ukraine-2050”, Honorary Consul of Ukraine in Montreal (Canada), 10th President of the Ukrainian World Congress (2008-2018); Benjamin Klinger, Programme Director, Sustainable Economic Development in Ukraine, GIZ; Vitaliy Vereschagin, General Manager of Caparol Ukraine, Head of the Supervisory Board of the UN Global Compact Network Ukraine; Pauline Deutz, Immediate Past President of the International Sustainable Development Research Society (ISDRS); Andres Jaadla, Member of the European Committee of the Regions (CoR), Board Member of Housing Europe, Chairman of the Estonian Union of Co-operative Housing Associations (EKYL), Vice Mayor of Rakvere City, Estonia.
The Conference participants discussed the pressing issues of the sustainable development of cities and communities, sustainable economic development and circular economy, education for sustainable development, as well as international cooperation and active partnership for achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.
The conference will be held annually with the participation of the representatives of the authorities, business, science and the public.
