The team of female basketball players of Vasyl Stefanyk Precarpathian National University has become the silver medal winner of the World University League, Basketball 3х3, which took place in Xiamen, China, 15-18 November. Our team, which formed the base of the Ukrainian national basketball team 3х3, has proved its high skill level again. The team included Anastasiia Sydorak, Tetiana Yurkevychus, Viktoriia Kondus and Anna Hvichiani. The team’s head coach is Yurii Protsiuk.
Victory in the group phase helped our players to get to the finals. Our team played matches in Group A with representatives of the University of Chile, Peking University and Takushoku University. They started the game with Japanese basketball players and won confidently with a score of 22:9. In the match with the Chilean team our players had control over the game till the end and scored a 22:10 victory. In the final match of the group phase in a fierce fight our team defeated hosts of Peking University with a score of 18:16 in overtime. According to the group phase results, women’s university national basketball team 3х3, which was represented by Precarpathian University, took the first place in Group A.
In 1/8 final our players defeated the team of National University of Colombia with a score of 13:8. Later, on the way to their victory, they had a tense and difficult fight with the team of VU Amsterdam. But despite all this, our basketball players won the match with a score of 20:16. Also, the fight of our team with Slovenes became victorious. With a score of 13:10 our girls defeated the basketball players from the University of Ljubljana.
In the finals one more team of hosts from Tsinghua University competed with our sportswomen. In a fierce competition our basketball players gave in to game hostesses but only with 3 points scoring 14:17 and winning silver awards of the World University League, Basketball 3х3.
It’s worth mentioning that women’s basketball team 3х3 of Precarpathian University has become the silver winner of European Student Games 2018, which were held in summer in Coimbra (Portugal), and has got the right to represent the European continent at the World University League in China.
