Today, April 26, marks the 38th anniversary of the largest man-made disaster – the explosion of the fourth reactor at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant. For the purpose of commemorating and honoring the memory of the victims of the Chernobyl NPP accident and implementing the tasks of the Jean Monet module project “Radiation Safety: European-Ukrainian Approach” (101127143 – RISE-UP – ERASMUS-JMO-2023-HEI-TCH-RSCH) in Prykarpattia Vasyl Stefanyk National University held a round table on the topic “Causes and consequences of the accident at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant” in a mixed format. The event was held by the Department of Materials Science and New Technologies. Moderator-lecturer, Head of the Department of Materials Science and New Technologies, Professor, Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, Volodymyr Kotsyubynskyi.
“38 years ago, the largest man-made disaster in the history of mankind took place on the territory of Ukraine. Hundreds of thousands of people gave their health, and many gave their lives, to protect society from this great disaster, from the nuclear threat. We should always remember and honor them! Now we must work to prevent such a situation from happening again. And for this we need to understand first of all what exactly happened. Therefore, today we have the opportunity to talk about radiation, in particular, how we can measure and control it, what the consequences of exposure can be and what are the risk factors,” said the head of the Department of Materials Science and New Technologies, Professor Volodymyr Kotsyubynskyi.
